Ponta das Canas is on the north of Santa Catarina Island in Florianópolis, between the beaches of Cachoeira do Bom Jesus and Lagoinha do Norte, next to Praia Brava. The area draws locals and visitors who want nature along with good shops and services.
The beach is shallow and deepens slowly, with white sand and clear water: a lovely swim. The strip of sand is wide, with plenty of room for your umbrella, and there are good walks and trails nearby.
It is a fishing community. The boats make a beautiful scene and mean fresh seafood. Supermarkets, pharmacies, a gas station, local shops and excellent restaurants are all close by.

Beach walks
In recent years sea currents have widened the sand to the left side of the beach (facing the sea), so the walk is even longer now.
Coastal trails
Head right from Ponta do Sunset (facing the sea) and follow the rocks to the trail that leads to Lagoinha do Norte. From there another trail continues to Praia Brava. Breathtaking views.
Speedboat trips
Ponta das Canas is one of the best-known departure points in Florianópolis, with marinas near Ponta do Sunset. You can reach Ilha do Francês, Praia do Tinguá and Prainha Xanahi in Governador Celso Ramos.
Pirate ship to Anhatomirim
A fun family outing. One of the most popular departures is from Canasvieiras, the next beach over.
Outrigger canoeing
Kanaloa Va'a, the latest craze, has one of its bases in Cachoeira do Bom Jesus, right next door.
More beaches
Lagoinha do Norte and Praia Brava are to the right, heading north. A little further are Ingleses and Santinho to the north, and Jurerê Tradicional, Jurerê Internacional, Praia do Forte and Daniela to the south.
